According to the Danish Archives Act, one of the objectives of the Danish States Archives is to engage in research - thus making this body a Research Institution under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Culture.
Presently the State Archives employs approximately 25 archivists who have research obligations requiring that two-sevenths of their working hours are earmarked for research. The research topics are predominantly related to Danish history from the Middle Ages to the present. All research is based on collections available in the Archives.
